MCWD to set up sep­tage treat­ment facility in Cor­dova, north re­cla


The Met­ro­pol­i­tan Cebu Wa­ter Dis­trict (MCWD) will es­tab­lish two sep­tage treat­ment fa­cil­i­ties (STFs) fol­low­ing the sign­ing of a tri­par­tite mem­o­ran­dum of agree­ment with the Cebu Pro­vin­cial Govern­ment and the Cebu City Govern­ment.

The doc­u­ment sign­ing for the Sep­tage Man­age­ment Pro­gram of Metro Cebu be­tween the MCWD and the Ja­pan In­ter­na­tional Co­op­er­a­tion Agency (Jica) was held on Fri­day, Jan. 11, in the Dig­ni­taries Hall at the Capi­tol.

The sign­ing was led by MCWD gen­eral man­ager Jose Euse­bio Sing­son Jr. and Hiromichi Mu­rakami, se­nior deputy direc­tor gen­eral of Global En­vi­ron­men­tal De­part­ment of Jica.

Gov. Hi­lario Da­vide III, who sits as chair­man of the Metro Cebu De­vel­op­ment and Co­or­di­nat­ing Board, and Nori­hiko No­mura, direc­tor gen­eral of the En­vi­ron­men­tal Plan­ning Bureau of the City of Yoko­hamo, Ja­pan, served as wit­nesses.

Ac­cord­ing to MCWD spokesper­son Char­maine Ro­driguez-Kara, they will sub­mit all re­quired doc­u­ments to Jica, in­clud­ing lo­cal or­di­nances sup­port­ing the P1-bil­lion project, which is ex­pected to be com­pleted in 2021.

The first STF will be in Barangay San Miguel, Cor­dova with a ca­pac­ity of 150 cu­bic me­ters daily to process waste from sep­tic tanks in houses and es­tab­lish­ments in the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Cor­dova.

The se­cond STF will be lo­cated in a 1.3-hectare lot owned by the Pro­vin­cial Govern­ment at the North Recla­ma­tion Area in Cebu City. It will be ca­pa­ble of treat­ing 500 cu­bic me­ters of sludge/waste that will be col­lected from com­mer­cial and in­dus­trial es­tab­lish­ments in the cities of Cebu, Tal­isay and Man­daue and the towns of Con­so­la­cion, Liloan and Com­postela.
