Busy Fe­bru­ary for Re­gion 7 ath­letes

A busy first quar­ter awaits Cebu’s stu­dent-ath­letes as the Cen­tral Visayas Re­gional Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion (Cvi­raa) meet and the Batang Pi­noy Visayas Leg is all set on the hori­zon.

The Cvi­raa meet will kick things off in Fe­bru­ary in Du­maguete City as the ath­letes from dif­fer­ent di­vi­sions of Cen­tral Visayas com­pete for the right to rep­re­sent Re­gion 7 in the Palarong Pam­bansa, which is set in Davao City this sum­mer.

The Cebu City Niños re­main the ti­tle fa­vorite, hav­ing won the over­all ti­tle for 26 years, while the di­vi­sions of Cebu Prov­ince, Bo­hol Prov­ince and Du­maguete are among the strong con­tenders af­ter show­ing sig­nif­i­cant im­prove­ment in the past years.

The reg­u­lar sports to be con­tested are archery, ath­let­ics, ar­nis, bad­minton, base­ball, bas­ket­ball, bil­liards, box­ing, chess, foot­ball, fut­sal, gym­nas­tics, pen­cak silat, sepak takraw, soft­ball, swim­ming, ta­ble ten­nis, taek­wondo, lawn ten­nis, vol­ley­ball, wrestling and wushu.

Af­ter the Cvi­raa, ath­letes will be pre­par­ing for the Batang Pi­noy Visayas Leg on Feb. 23 to March 2 in Iloilo City. The event is a grass­roots sports pro­gram con­ducted by the Philip­pine Sports Com­mis­sion (PSC) with the win­ners go­ing to play in the na­tional fi­nals. /
