After being married before a judge 22 years ago, Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) Director Julian Entoma and his wife, Socorro, finally said their “I do’s” before God.
They were one of 16 couples whose union was sanctified through a mass wedding organized by the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 at the St. Ignatius de Loyola Chapel in Camp Sergio Osmeña in Cebu City.
The wedding was held on Monday, Feb. 11, coinciding with the Philippine National Police’s 28th founding anniversary.
Serving as godparents to the newlyweds were PRO 7 Director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas, Chinese Consul General Jia Li and Deputy PNP Chief for Operations Francisco Gamboa, among others.
The PRO 7 shouldered the wedding expenses for the 16 couples, including the gowns for the bride and the reception.
Aside from the free lechon and a sumptuous buffet spread provided by the PRO 7, the latter also gifted the couples with an envelope containing P5,000.
The PRO 7 also paid for their three nights’ stay in a hotel.
The police officials did not stop there. Apart from the material gifts, they also gave the newly married police officers a threeday vacation leave so they can go on a honeymoon.
Sinas said it has been a tradition for him to organize a mass wedding for police officers who have been living with their partners without the blessing of the church.
He said he understands there are some police officers who opted not to get married due to financial reasons.
It was the first time the PRO 7 organized a mass wedding for its police officers.
