THE DRIVE TO LEARN

A quick glance at 3 driving schools in the city

- CHRISTIAN B. QUILO / Writer

Learning how a car works, how to drive, then taking a seat behind the wheel and hitting the streets — these are the easy parts of driving.

The harder part? Being an educated and, therefore, responsible driver, one who knows not just traffic rules and regulations, but the rudiments of road courtesy as well.

After all, once you take the wheel, you are responsible for yourself, your passengers and also other drivers and pedestrians. Sounds like a tall order for something as “simple” as driving, right?

But it’s never too late to learn, so whether you’re a teenager who just turned legal or a middle-aged adult who’s planning on driving, here are a few driving schools you can check out for essential lessons:

Best Driving School

Founded in 2007 by Remarie Legados, one of the pioneering and sought-after driving instructors in Cebu, Best Driving School offers training programs and modules that the founder and chief executive officer (CEO) created based on his experience as a professional for over 15 years.

With Best Driving School, Legados has passed on valuable learnings by training equally competent instructors that the school is proud to employ to teach its students. Performance and progress of students are monitored closely by a senior training instructor, as well as the CEO himself.

Best Driving School offers packages for both basic and comprehensive courses, refreshers, seminars, and even a driving proficiency assessment for those who want to be instructors themselves. Best Driving School is located at 626 Doña Esperanza Village, Katipunan St., Barangay Tisa, Cebu City.

Asian Driving School

Asian Driving School is committed to fostering a driving community that is safe for drivers and the general public.

This school’s vision for Cebu includes safer roads, where there is harmony between drivers, the riding public and pedestrians; responsible drivers who respect the rules of the roads; and a safe environment for commuters where accidents are minimized.

Asian Driving offers lessons on either manual or automatic transmission with sessions on a simulator, or a combo package with hours on both transmissions. Asian Driving School is located on 257 Katipunan St., Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

A-1 Driving Company Inc.

Founded in 1977, A-1 has become one of the most established and well-accredited driving schools in the Philippines, with many awards and affiliations.

The company has over 80 offices in several areas in the country including Cebu, Metro Manila, North Luzon and Davao. With its Standard Uniform Instruction Technique, or SUIT, students get the same quality of education from any A-1 branch nationwide.

It has training centers should one prefer to start driving in a controlled environment before going to the main roads. Selected offices also have lecture rooms for students to undergo lessons before getting to the actual driving. In Cebu, A-1 Driving School has branches in Ayala Center Cebu, Capitol Site, SM City Cebu and South Central Square.
