TEPORA TO TRAIN AT WILD CARD GYM
Jhack Tepora begins training at Wild Card gym on Feb. 18, vows to redeem himself
Jhack Tepora vows to train harder, bounce back stronger and prove all of his doubters wrong.
The 23-year-old Tepora is now in Los Angeles, California to train for his next fight. He starts his training on Monday, Feb. 18, at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood under the watchful eye of former world champion and promising trainer Rodel Mayol.
He was previously under his brother Jingjing Tepora at the Omega Boxing Stable but left Omega when it fired his brother. He trained with his brother but that partnership after just one fight.
“I want to thank the people that believe in me, the people that are still supporting me. I thank you all so much. Don’t worry, I will bounce back stronger, “Tepora, the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight champion, told SunStar Cebu.
Tepora was supposed to make his US debut as one of the main undercard fights of Manny Pacquiao’s title defense of his WBA welterweight belt against Adrien Broner last month. He, however, failed to make weight and was replaced by Alberto Guevara as Hugo Ruiz’s opponent. Luckily, he was able to keep his belt.
Pacquiao’s MP Promotions, which promotes Tepora’s fights, gave him another chance to redeem himself but is closely monitoring him under Mayol.
Though Tepora, who arrived in the US last Feb. 14, still has no schedule for his fight, he promised to focus on his training and won’t miss the weight next time.
“It won’t happen again. I will train very hard,” he said.
Tepora won his interim WBA featherweight crown with a ninth round stoppage over Edivaldo Ortega in July last year. Tepora is 22-0 with 17 knockouts. /
