In honor of the old Patria de Cebu building, the newly reformed architect chapter in Metro Cebu held its first-ever intensive watercolor demo for National Art Month.

With the objective of promoting sketching to Cebu’s art enthusiasts, architect Dino Pajao, architect Richie Vios and Metro sketchers demonstrated the basics of documenting classic structures through the use of watercolor.

“We want to help the community during this time when it is losing old infrastructures and buildings to development,” said architect Josephril Partosa. He explained that this program serves as the group’s “kabilin” (inheritance) to the future generation and also a tribute to the beautiful and historic buildings of Cebu City.

With the help of Daniel Smith watercolor and Davies Paints, the program was participated by different Architecture students and art enthusiasts in Metro Cebu.

“Their existence to document classic structures would be such a great story for the future generations. Stories alone cannot stand, but the sketches can tell a better story for the future generations,” Maria Patalinghug of Davies Paints said. Art, according to Ethel Pajao of Daniel Smith watercolor, should be “a way of life.”

The group plans to have a collection of different sketches of the classic infrastructures in Cebu and publish it as a coffee book, as a reminder that one of art’s main goals is to document life as it is./
