2001 trample Bad Boys

BATCH 2001, Batch ‘98, Batch 2008+2009 and Batch 2018 led their respective packs to victory in the opening day of Don Bosco Technical Collge’s (DBTC) alumni basketball league, Don Bosco Cup “Is Your Pack the Strongest?”, last March 24, at the DBTC Gym.

2001 put on a clinic with a one-sided beating of Batch ‘95 Bad Boys, 71-19, in Division 1.

All-around big man Rey Louie Lepardo scored his will around the painted area with 22 points and four rebounds to lead 2001. Ian Castrodes and Steve Sadaya also added 10 points each.

Batch 2001 totally dominated the Bad Boys with their size and defense. It held Batch ‘95 to just four points, 26-4, at halftime and never looked back.

Batch ‘98, on the other hand, beat Batch ‘94 Bullvets, 56-54, in the other Division 1 game.

Gandi Mahinay led ‘98 with 16 markers, seven boards, three assists and two steals, while Vincent Escobido had 11 points for ‘94 Bullvets.

Noel Daigo Jr. hit a game-winning buzzer-beater in overtime to win it for Batch 2008+2009 over Batch 2011, 77-75, in Division 2.

Daigo Jr., who scored 11 markers, hit a difficult fade away three-point jumper from the corner.

John Velasco exploded for 29 points for 2008+2009.

In the other Division 1 game, Batch 2018 outlasted Batch 2014, 56-54.

Batch 2014 had a chance to tie it in the waning seconds of the ball game but missed two crucial free throws.

Imran Escobido had 11 markers, three boards, a steal and block for 2018, the youngest team in the league.
