Teban was great in comedy; Erning triumphed in literature.

JULIAN DAAN, a radio-TV-stage comedian and writer who became prominent with his 1976 radio play “Ang Sugilanon sa Manok ni San Pedro,” had starred in other soap operas with more interesting titles such as “If I Know Pa Lamang, I Will Never Gayud” and “Teban, Bagduki Ko.” But it was “Manok ni San Pedro” that has ensured his place in Cebuano culture.

Like the rooster that St. Peter gave Teban, the character Julian played in the drama, which also ran as a TV sitcom in 2013 and 2014, brought a lot of fame and some fortune. The fame helped him, then his wife, get elected to public office (as Cebu Provincial Board member, then, briefly, as vice governor.)
