THE tandem of Darwin Tabal and Sgt. Eugene Delposo ruled the five-kilometer tandem category of the Bayani Run presented by the Ford Forza Sports Foundation on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at the Centcom Camp Lapu-Lapu in Lahug, Cebu City.

The duo finished the five-kilometer course with a time of 23 minutes and 31 seconds to win the tandem top honors in a race conducted for the benefit of the Help Educate and Rear Orphans (Hero) Foundation Inc.

Rachel Cabido and Lineil Ryan Purpura of the Philippine Army came in 27:35, good for second place, while the pair of Army’s Wiljun Neri and Kota Koide finished third in 29:06.

The rising-runner Tabal is the cousin of Southeast Asian Games gold medalist and Olympian Mary Joy Tabal.

The Bayani Run was not the usual weekend run as the participants had to pass through the mini obstacle course along the 5K route just inside the Centcom premise.

Race director John Philip Dueñas said they made a mini obstacle similar to a military obstacle course. The event was participated in by 100 military men together with fitness buffs of Cebu.

Joseph Villanueva ruled the individual 5K run with a time of 20:26. Alfie Lozareta snagged second place in 22:12 and Christina Ruiz settled for third place in 22:29.

Patricia Tumulak crossed the finish line in 29:43 to win the women’s side. Frenalyn Gozar came in second in 31:08 and Cherry Lee Apiag was third in 31:13.

All the proceeds of the event will go to the Hero Foundation Inc., a non-stock and non-profit organization founded in 1988 that gives financial support to orphans of AFP members. /
