PRO 7 chief urges LGUs: Form task force to monitor firecracker sale, use

- JJL

TO PREVENT injuries and fatalities in the holiday season, a police official urged all the local government units (LGUs) in Central Visayas should form a task force that would monitor the sale of pyrotechnics and firecrackers.

This was the advice of Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Valeriano de Leon during the fourth quarterly meeting of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) 7 on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019.

He said the task force’s duty is to keep an eye of the pyrotechnics sale as well as see to it that the public would observe the laws.

Firecracker zone

In Cebu City, the firecracker zone is at the South Road Properties (SRP). The merchants are not allowed to sell pyrotechnic products outside the SRP.

De Leon asked the local chief executives to strictly implement rules that regulate the use of pyrotechnics and firecrackers.

As the yuletide season is here, the police official urged the public to be always watchful.

Other matters

The other issues tackled during the RPOC 7 meeting included the government’s problem in dealing with the communist insurgents, who could persuade students to join them.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, who chairs RPOC 7, urged schools to be vigilant and be watchful of their students, who might might be indoctrinated by the rebels.

Labella, however, said that there is no reported insurgency problem in Cebu City.

Also discussed in the meeting was the possible inclusion of Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) in the RPOC 7. The fourth quarterly meeting of the RPOC 7 was the first meeting that Labella presided after he was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as its chair last October. /
