AMID TOTAL DOMINANCE OF COVID-19 NEWS, ONE STORY MANAGES TO CRASH IN

DESPITE the pandemic, that already killed more than 100,000 Americans, a story of racial conflict and violence caught the attention of the world.

The image of George Floyd, arrested for allegedly passing a bogus $20 bill -pleading “I can’t breathe” as a Minneapolis, Minnesota policeman pressed a knee on his throat while his fellow cops just watched – horrified the American nation and much of the world as profoundly as the sight of rows of coffins and body bags for coronavirus victims did.

In Minneapolis alone, at least 30 fires were recorded in three straight days of rioting and looting. National guards have joined the response. In Los Angeles, the governor declared a state of emergency. (Can a local government declare a state of emergency when one is still in force and effect in the same area?) Elsewhere, there have been reports of sporadic clashes between protesters and law enforcers.
