42 NEW COVID-19 CASES IN CEBU CITY, 13 IN PROVINCE

3, 2020, the third day of general community quarantine (GCQ), Cebu City recorded 42 new cases of the coronaviru­s disease (Covid-19), and 16 new laboratory-negative.

City Hall spokespers­on Rey Gealon announced that the 42 cases came from Banawa (one), Basak San Nicolas (two), Luz (one), Bulacao (one), Calamba (one), Camputhaw (one), Carreta (one), Duljo (six), Ermita (two), Guadalupe (one), Inayawan (two), Labangon (four), Lahug (one), Lorega (one), Pardo (one), Quiot (two), Sambag 1 (three), San Nicolas Proper (one), Sawang Calero (two), Suba (one), Tejero (four), Tinago (two), and Tisa (one).

The 16 laboratory-negative, meanwhile, came from Barangays Carreta (two), Labangon (three), Ermita (one), Kamputhaw (three), Pasil (one), Lahug (four), and Mambaling (two).

The latest figure brings the total laboratory-negative count in the City to 1,176.

Gealon said one fatality, from Barangay Carreta, was added to the Covid-19 death toll.

With the 42 new cases, the Cebu City now has 2,450 Covid-19 positive patients. There are 1,246 active cases.

13 new cases in Cebu Province

On Wednesday night, in her regular press conference at the

Capitol, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia reported 13 new Covid-19 cases in Cebu Province.

Garcia said that of the 13 new cases, six came from Minglanill­a, five from Talisay City and one each for the towns of Barili and Consolacio­n.

In Minglanill­a, the six new cases reportedly came from one compound.

Included in the five new cases from Talisay City were two cases from Barangay Tabunok, a case from Barangay Tanke and two other cases related to a previous Covid-19 case.

In his official Facebook page, Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr. said that of the five cases, the patient from Barangay Tanke succumbed to severe acute respirator­y distress syndrome last May 30.

The patient’s wife and two kids were immediatel­y swabbed and isolated in a health facility.

Two cases are from Barangay Tabunok, a 36-year-old man and a 41-year-old man, who were already quarantine­d before they were swabbed.

The two other cases were reported contacts of the Talisay City’s 25th case, a police officer assigned in Cebu City and currently lives in Barangay Poblacion.

The contacts of all five cases have been swabbed and isolated.

As of Wednesday, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Cebu Province reached 186.

Close to 20,000 infections in PH

Fresh cases of Covid-19 increased for the third day in a row while late cases jumped to bring the total count closer to 20,000 infections in the Philippine­s as of June 3.

The Department of Health reported a total of 751 additional cases as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, which raised the total count to 19,748.

Of the 751, 221 are considered fresh cases while 530 are late cases. Fresh cases refer to test results released in the last three days while late cases refer to test results released at least four days ago.

Of the 221 fresh cases, 102 are from Central Visayas or Region 7, 68 are from the National Capital Region or Metro Manila, and 52 from other regions.

Deaths remained in the single-digit level for the fifth consecutiv­e day, with the DOH reporting eight mortalitie­s in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll to 974.

Recoveries also increased to 4,153, with 90 reported on Wednesday.
