TYPHOON BISING STRANDS 166 PASSENGERS IN NORTH

Bantayan, Borbon, Camotes, Daanbantayan, Medellin, Tabogon, San Remigio and Bogo City placed under Signal No. 1 due to typhoon Bising

MORE areas in northern Cebu, including San Remigio, have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 due to typhoon Bising.

Also under Signal No. 1 are Tabogon, Borbon, Bogo City,

Medellin, Daanbantayan, Bantayan, Camotes Islands and Biliran, Leyte and Southern Leyte in Eastern Visayas.

TCWS No. 2 was also hoisted in Catanduanes in Luzon and Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and Samar in Eastern Visayas.

Dagalea said as of 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2021, they recorded 166 stranded passengers (42 in San Remigio; 94 in Tabuelan and 30 in Danao), 28 stranded vessells and 85 rolling cargoes.

The Cebu Port Authority on Saturday, April 17, reported that 305 passengers were affected when the Philippine Coast Guard issued a notice temporarily suspending sea trips to areas placed under TCWS No. 1 due to typhoon Bising.

As of 4 p.m., Sunday, typhoon Bising’s eye was located 290 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.

It slightly weakened and decelerates while moving west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Catanduanes.

It has a maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 250 km/h.

Typhoon Bising is moving west northwestward at 15 km/h.

Meanwhile, CG Station Central Cebu acting commander Alvin Dagalea said a pumpboat carrying two fishermen started to sink 200 meters from the shore after it was pummeled by big, strong waves.

The men, identified as Redemptor Cueva, 54, and Archie Mamposte, 25, left Barangay Looc in San Remigio at 11:30 a.m. Sunday and were headed to Bantayan Island.

They were able to swim back to shore, where they were attended by medical personnel. /
