Paref Springdale holds Titans Virtual Race 2021

-

AS PART of its 25th anniversary celebration, Paref Springdale School Inc. is holding a virtual sporting event for a cause dubbed the Titans Virtual Race 2021 for the benefit of the school’s student body organization.

The sporting event was formally launched on a virtual press conference Friday afternoon, April 16, 2021 via Zoom and Facebook Live.

Four types of races are featured in the Titans Virtual Race 2021, namely walk, run, bike and swim.

Categories in the walk are 3-kilometer (father and son) 3K (7 to 9 years old), 5K and 10K. The run will feature 3K (father and son), 3K (7 to 9 years old), 5K, 10K and 21K. The bike has 25K (father and son), 50K, 100K and 250K, while the swim has 3K, 5K and 10K.

Since all the races are virtual, the participants will have ample time to complete their respective distance before the deadline on May 2. Participants can use Strava, Apple Health, Google Fit, Samsung Health, Garmin, Fitbit or any digital watch to record their time.

The proceeds of the event will go to the Paref Springdale Student Body Organization (SBO).

SBO president Anton Ballreich said they intend to implement as many projects as possible as part of the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines.

The recent outreach projects of the organization include providing food packs to law enforcement personnel at the checkpoint areas in Lahug, Busay and Banilad and to the medical frontliners at the Cebu City Medical Center.

They also donated clothes, toys and packed meals to the Little Servants of Christ the King Orphanage December last year.

Paref Springdale School sports coordinator Karl Angelo Ocampo said they decided to come up with a combination of different types of virtual races to give fitness enthusiasts a variety of races to choose from.

“By helping the school, we can also help ourselves because of the beneficial effects on health,” said Chester Lim, Grade 3 Class head parent coordinator.

He noted that with the elderly staying at home due to the pandemic, the virtual race is an opportunity for them to have an activity by joining the Walk category.

The participants will receive a medal, a singlet and a virtual certificate of participation. Top

finishers in each category will also receive winners’ medals as well as prizes in cash and in kind.

Registration fee is pegged at P750.

National team triathlete and Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Andrew Kim Remolino

and online kata world No. 1 ranked James de los Santos, who are both outstanding alumni of the school, are joining the event.

The Titans Virtual Race 2021 jumpstarts the year-long celebration of Paref Springdale’s 25th anniversary.
