Rhinos grab solo lead, Bears upset Eagles in Elite Basketball Cebu

THE Gothong Shipping Lines-Rhinos outlasted the Vipers, 82-78, in overtime to grab the solo lead in the standings of the Elite Basketball Cebu Season 18 last Saturday night, April 30, 2022, at the Casals Gym.

The win boosted the Rhinos’ win-loss record to 4-0 while the Vipers dropped to 1-2.

It was a gritty win by the Rhinos which led by as much as 18 but suddenly found themselves trailing by one late in regulation. However, former University of San Carlos wingman Mark Panerio canned a free throw to tie the game up at 70-all and send the game to the extra session.

In overtime, the Rhinos took over, thanks to the defensive boost provided by Chito Solis and the offensive firepower of JD Solitario who finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Sherilin Trading Inc.-Bears rallied from a double-digit deficit to defeat the Prime Movers Logistics-Eagles in overtime, 112-105.

Former University of Southern Philippine­s Foundation star James Ferraren paced the Bears with his 28 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and a block as they moved to 3-1 in this tournament.

The Eagles dropped to 4-1. /
