Technician shoots neighbor over loud singing
A 31-YEAR-OLD man from Barangay Tuyan, City of Naga, southern Cebu is in critical condition after one of his neighbors shot him for refusing to tone down the volume while singing videoke at his house on Tuesday night, May 3, 2022.
Police identified the victim as Jerome Amit Padillo, a resident of Purok Kamunggay in Barangay Tuyan, City of Naga.
Padillo’s neighbor, Jeffrey Repollo Saladaga, 26, who works as a telecommunications firm technician, was identified as the suspect.
Saladaga eventually surrendered to local police in Talisay City hours after shooting Padillo.
Senior Master Sgt. Jake Catane, an investigator of the City of Naga Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that Padillo was drinking and singing with his younger brother and two cousins inside their home just hours before the incident.
At around 10:20 p.m., Padillo, his brother and cousins had stopped drinking and singing when Saladaga suddenly came inside their home and shot the victim several times before fleeing.
Catane said Padillo was brought to a nearby hospital where he is currently recuperating from his injuries.
Saladaga eventually turned himself in to local police in Talisay City following the incident.
Catane said that based on their investigation, they found out that Padillo and Saladaga had been at odds with one another over a land dispute between their two families.
Just before the incident, Padillo allegedly harassed Saladaga’s mother and broke their kitchen door.
Apart from their ongoing rift, Padillo allegedly provoked Saladaga when the former refused to heed the suspect’s request to tone down his voice while he was singing inside his house at that time.
Instead, Padillo, using his videoke system, blurted insults against Saladaga through song.
Local police are set to file charges against Saladaga.
