CEBU FC REMAINS UNBEATEN IN COPA

-

CEBU FC remained unbeaten in the 2022 Copa Paulino Alcantara after a 2-1 win over Maharlika Manila at Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Training Center in Carmona, Cavite on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

Cebu FC continued to show its top form despite missing the services of midfielder Mert Altinoz, who was suspended after getting two yellow cards.

Striker Arda Cinkir continued to impress after scoring Cebu FC’s opening goal in the 37th minute. Altinoz hit the back of the net with a beautiful through pass from Lorenzo Genco.

Coming off the bench for Daniel Gadia, JB Borlongan immediately made a huge impact and gave Gentle Giants a 2-0 lead with a goal in the 56th minute.

Maharlika finally got a goal in after Sungmin Kim headed in the ball in the 68th minute from a cross.

Cebu FC solidified its second place position with 12 points following the victory.

Cebu FC is just behind by a point from defending champion Kaya FC-Iloilo, which sits at first place with 13 points. United City FC (UCF) is third with eight points.

Azkals Development Team (ADT) and Stallion Laguna FC are fighting for the final spot. ADT, which is currently preparing for the Southeast Asian Games, is already done playing all its games and has seven points. Stallion, in the meantime, still has two remaining matches— one against Maharlika and the other against UCFC. Stallion has three points and can’t afford to lose a game or else it’ll be eliminated from the tournament.

Cebu FC’s next match is against UCFC on May 8 and against Kaya FC on May 12.
