Challenges of the next president

-

Today, we shall be electing a new president among other political candidates in the country. Those who will make it will be our leaders for the next years ahead. After enjoying the taste of victory, they will thereafter have to face the challenges brought by their positions.

Aside from the authority they will be having, they will have to face the responsibilities entailed. They will have to serve the people they will be taking oath to serve after getting elected. In short, they will have to work after winning the election.

The next president is not spared from the responsibilities. In fact, he or she has the greatest challenges to face when he assumes office. He or she has the gargantuan tasks of almost everything.

The pandemic caused by the Covid-19 is a great task to address not only by our country but the whole world. It may seem to have already ended but virus mutations must be observed by experts. Besides, we have not yet attained a zero count or achieved a 100 percent vaccination rate.

As of March of this year, the country has an outstanding P12.68 trillion in debts according to the Bureau of Treasury. Around 30 percent of these debts were sourced externally and the rest from domestic borrowings. The depreciation of the Peso against the US dollar has an effect on these, too.

The current administration is about to end. It is inevitable for President Rodrigo Duterte to have some unfinished programs and projects that need to be continued by his successor. Continuing these pose a challenge such as his war on drugs, his “build, build, build” and others.

Elections cause disunity among us. Of course we have our respective bets and teams to support. The victor, after the polls, needs to unite the country and patch political differences.

One important task the next Malacañang occupant has is how to make efforts in making the economy bounce back. He or she should be a good economic trouble shooter and manager. In fairness, other countries’ economies are suffering too and we are not alone.

Let us remember again “wisely” today as we troop to the precincts to vote.
