MANDAUE SHOWCASES WORKS OF LOCAL ARTISTS IN EXHIBIT

AS A WAY to promote its local artists, the Mandaue City Government opened its first-ever arts and cultural exhibit at the City Sports and Cultural Complex on Friday, May 20, 2022.

Mandaue City officials led by Mayor Jonas Cortes formally launched the exhibit in lieu of the culminatio­n of the city’s Mid-year Cultural Summit and also to celebrate National Heritage Month.

Marie Immaline Cabahug Cortes-Zafra, Mandaue City councilor and chairperso­n of its committee on tourism, said their main goal for opening the exhibit was was showcase the works of some of the city’s local artists.

It featured some of the artworks done by the Mandaue City Council for Culture and Arts, including the artworks of Mandaue City’s First Lady Sarah Walker-Cortes, who was also present at the event.

Though the exhibit only ran for a day, the artwork showcased will be transferre­d to the Mandaue City Hall on the following days as a way for the public to see it, Zafra added.

Interested buyers for the paintings can also coordinate with the local artist directly, she added.

Aside from the works of Mandaue’s artists, local performers were also present during the exhibit.

Appreciati­on night for frontliner­s

The event also served as an appreciati­on night for the frontliner­s specifical­ly, the Vaccinatio­n Operation Centers and the local government unit department heads, who they said, had an important contributi­on to the city’s high vaccinatio­n performanc­e during the Covid-19 pandemic.

As of April 23, Mandaue City had a 92.2 percent vaccinatio­n rate of fully vaccinated individual­s and is continuous­ly one of the leading cities with a high vaccinatio­n rate in Central Visayas.

In his speech, Cortes thanked all the hard work of the Mandaue frontliner­s and so as all the frontliner­s who continuous­ly battled the pandemic.
