Training center, Mandaue LGU offer livelihood courses

-

THE Mandaue City College Technological Entrepreneurial Skills Training Center (MCCTEST) has teamed up with the local government unit of Mandaue City to offer technical and vocational courses that will help increase employment opportunities in the city.

Melinda Bihag, MCCTEST acting head, told reporters on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, that they had re-launched 10 courses, including high-speed sewing, since September 2021 for individuals 18 to 35 years old, especially the out-of-school youths and displaced workers.

The vocational courses they offer include commercial cooking, bread and pastry production, food and meat processing, cosmetology, hilot wellness massage, draperies and curtains, dressmaking, and high-speed sewing.

The technical courses are computer systems services and automotive mechanics.

Cost for the equipment to be used will be shouldered by MCCTEST, but trainees would have to bring their own training materials, such as the cooking ingredients and the cloth to be used for sewing, Bihag added.

Bihag said that after graduation, trainees, specifically those who studied high-speed sewing, will be endorsed to their partner companies for possible work opportunities including SCI Phils. at the Mactan Economic Zone in LapuLapu City.

Bihag said the trainees have also the option to apply for overseas employment.

“Graduates will be endorsed in several companies here in Mandaue City and also through Peso (Public Employment Service Office). They will be given a certificate of training. Also, because we are affiliated with Tesda (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority), they will be given a chance to take the NC2 test to work abroad,” she added.

The courses can be taken in two sessions — day and night sessions — to be completed in three months.

As of May, Bihag said, they already have 156 trainees enrolled.

She added that the MCCTEST is open for cooperation with other local government units in Cebu.

Interested applicants may visit the MCCTEST and submit the requirements needed, such as a photocopy of birth certificate, barangay clearance, two pieces of 1x1 and one piece 2x2 ID pictures with white background.

They must also pay the commitment fee of P500, which is inclusive of the ID, two pieces uniform, and accident insurance.
