518 families benefit from housing program
A TOTAL of 518 families in Compostela Valley benefitted from the Housing Development Program of Gov. Artur T. Uy.
Construction of the houses started in 2009 and Uy’s goal to give shelter to the poor people of the province resulted to a successful implementation of the program.
Uy, who will serve his third and final term as governor of Compostela Valley after getting a fresh mandate in the May 13 midterm elections, joined hands with Gawad Kalinga (GK) Foundation organized by the Couples for Christ of the Catholic Church.
The partnership, called Uswag-Gawad Kalinga, produced 518 houses.
Both the Provincial Government of Compostela Valley and the GK Foundation agreed to work hand-in-hand to give the poor residents a decent home with no expense on their part.
In building these houses, Uy and GK Foundation looked for partners from the different sectors with kind heart and willing to help the poor.
The first beneficiaries of the housing program implemented in at least 11 municipalities were from Brgy. Kinuban, Maco in 2009 to coincide with the 1st Uswag-GK 1 MB. After this, more houses were constructed in other areas.
Last March 23 to 27, some 50 houses were completed in SOP Kahiusahan Uswag GK Village in Brgy. Osmeña, Compostela.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) in Compostela Valley have proclaimed the winners in the May 13 elections.
Gov. Uy got a fresh mandate while Rep. Maricar Zamora and Rep. Rommel Amatong were also reelected. The three top lo- cal officials ran unopposed and were proclaimed by the PBOC last May 16.
Jayvee Tyron Uy, son of Gov. Uy, emerged the topnotcher in the race for a seat in the second district of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).
Based on the proclamation of winners of Comelec election supervisor Atty. Jennifer Ponpon Ancla, Uy garnered 94,313 votes in the second district.
The younger Uy started working for the provincial government when he was named sports coordinator by his father in 2011.
