Sasa police chief uses police visibility vs crimes

-

WITH a total of 35 robbery and theft incidents recorded in the Sasa Police Station’s area-of-responsibility (AOR) for the first quarter, its commander, Supt. Royina Garma is increasing police visibility in the different communities to reduce the numbers.

Out of the 35 crimes against property, 15 were robbery incidents while 20 are cases of theft.

“Most ng tao ko nasa labas for advocacy programs and para ma-maximize ang visibility. Hindi ko din sila gaanong pinapasakay ng mobile kasi mostly sa kanila are on foot patrol. This way, mas madali silang maka-establish ng connection sa community (Most of my men are outside for advocacy programs and to maximize visibility. I also don’t let my men ride the mobile since mostly they are on foot patrol. This way they could easily establish connec- tion with the community),” Garma told Sun.Star Davao.

She also said her men go house-to-house in the different villages in subdivisions in her AOR.

“I tell my men to remind residents that they should not park their vehicles outside their homes to avoid being victimized by ‘Buak Kotse’ suspects. We also constantly remind the villagers to use a secure lock on their homes

to avert any attempts from robbers,” Garma said.

Garma said she also deploys her intelligence officers in the field to conduct security survey in the different business establishments.

“Our security surveys allow us to know where we should concentrate our deployment of our men. It also helps us determine if a certain business establishment is vulnerable to robbery,” she said. The Sasa police commander also encouraged the victims to file charges against the suspects.

“When we have arrested the suspect and recovered the stolen items, most of the victims would not pursue any charges against the suspects. So I encourage the victims to file charges against these suspects to rid the streets of these criminals,” Garma said. RSA
