A COUNCILOR-ELECT in Davao Oriental was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen Sunday night.

Romie Almacin, who just earned his second term as councilor of Governor Generoso, was gunned down at around 7:45 p.m. Sunday after his proclamation by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The shooting took place in Barangay Tibanban, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.

Ana Shiera Mae Almacin, daughter of Romie, 44, married, of Kumintang, Barangay Tibanban, said his father succumbed to a gunshot wounds in his neck and back from a .45 caliber handgun.

She said Romie called her up at 7:28 p.m., informing her that he was to stay at his house in Bangayan, Barangay Don Aurelio Chicote.

Romie never reached her house and they were only informed that he had been killed.

Police said the victim was

riding his motorcycle when he was killed. There were six suspects in the killing, who were all onboard three motorcycles.

Shiera said people in her barangay knew why her father was killed.

“Everyone knows what is the real story behind the death of my father, even them, who did this to my father is guilty enough,” Shiera said.

“I don’t have to tell what this is all about. The people of Governor Generoso know this very well. Sa mga nagbuhat ani, unta mapasaylo nila ang ilang kaugalingon,” she added.

Police Sr. Supt. Jose Carumba, director of the Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office, told Superbalita that they are investigating the killing.

“Naka-focus kami sa death threats ng biktima dahil sa kanyang active campaign against illegal drugs,” Carumba said.

“Si Konsehal Almacin kasi ang nagbigay ng information at nag-witness sa court. Pagkatapos nun, nakatanggap na siya ng mga death threats,” Carumba added.
