174 private schools granted tuition hike

THE Department of Education (DepEd) 11 approved the tuition and other fees increase applicatio­n of 174 private elementary and secondary schools in the Davao Region for school year 2013- 2014. The data Sun.Star Davao had, however, did not identify the schools.

Based on the data emailed by Deped 11, only 72 out of 151 elementary schools that applied for the hike got Deped’s nod.

The education department also granted the applicatio­n for increase of 91 out of 119 regular secondary schools and 11 out of 15 Sunday high schools.

Out of the 72 elementary schools with approved

applicatio­ns, 51 of them are from Davao City.

Others are from Digos City with three, Davao del Sur with two, Davao dle Norte with two, Panabo City with one, Tagum City with four, Davao Oriental with five Compostela Valley with four.

Davao Region has a total of 430 private elementary schools.

Meanwhile, most of the approved applicatio­ns for regular secondary schools also come from Davao City with 44.

There are also from Davao del Sur with 15, one from Digos City, five in davao del Norte, nine in Tagum City, two in davao Oriental, Compostela Valley has 10, three in Mati, and two in Igacos.

The schools with approved applicatio­ns for Sunday high school are from Davao City with seven, Compostela Valley with one, two in Tagum City, and one in Davao del Norte.

Deped said each private school determined its rate of tuition and other fees.

The documents r equired by the DepEd were notarized schedule of fees, current and proposed; financial statement showing the financial status of the applicant school; and copy of the latest income return, filed with the BIR.

Consultati­ons with the duly organized student body and parents in a general assembly were also part of the requiremen­ts.

“Distributi­on for increase applicatio­n must be, 70% for the payment of salaries, wages, allowances and other benefits for the workforce, 20% for improvemen­ts of facilities, institutio­nal developmen­t, student assistance and extension services and 10% for the school’s ROI (return of investment),” Deped 11 said.
