ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL--Social Security System (SSS) President and CEO Emilio de Quiros Jr. led the launching of AlkanSSSya Program for San Remegio Agrarian Reform beneficiar­ies Multi-Purpose Cooperativ­e (SARBEMCO) and San Remegio Fisherfolk­s Cooperativ­e (Sarfisco) at Barangay San Remegio, Kaputian District, Wednesday.

“Misyon namin sa SSS ang palaganapi­n ang pagcover at pagbigay ng pagkakatao­n sa lahat ng mamamayang mangagawan­g Pilipino na mabigyan ng social protection. Ito’y sinasabi naming social insurance na ang ibig sabihin nito ay ang pagbigay ng pension sa magretire at habang buhay ang pagbigay ng mga short term benefits tulad ng sickness allowance, maternity allowance at disability,” de Quiros said. De Quiros said the AlkanSSSya Program aims to bring the services closer to the people so that many would be member in SSS and could avail its benefits. He also said that a peso contribute­d to SSS would earn a minimum of P6 thru the benefits it can avail.

SSS Visayas and Mindanao group senior vice president Atty. Eddie A. Jara said that in joining SSS everyone is a winner. To the informal Sector workers (ISW), an opportunit­y to be a member in SSS and be able to avail all it benefits, to the local government unit, for supporting national government pro-poor program that improve the well-being of ISW and harnesses community developmen­t thru networking with other agencies thus redounds better governance.

Jara encouraged all the Sarbemco and Sarfisco members to diligently save now so not be a burden to the family, community and the country in the future.

City Vice Mayor Al David Uy, representi­ng City Mayor Aniano P. Antalan, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the SSS team for their effort in coming to San Remegio, a very remote barangay in Samal Island just to extend their services and painstakin­gly teach the community to diligently save.

Uy challenged t he community to save and consider the opportunit­y given by SSS as an investment and not an expense. He also requested the SSS team to replicate the same to other groups in remote barangays in Igacos.

The Sarbemco and Sarfisco were grateful to SSS for establishi­ng the AlkanSSSya Program in their barangay. The facility had save them much time, money and effort in saving for their premium in SSS with the help of their associatio­n and the SSS.

“Maayo kaayo nga nia na ning AlkanSSya Program sa SSS kay duol na mi magsave para sa among premium ug dili na mi makagasto ug pamasahe kay diri na man lang sa among barangay magbayad (AlkanSSSya Program of SSS is of big help to us because we can easily save and pay our SSS premium just here in our barangay,” said Feby Ecarma, a 35-year-old Sarbemco member.

Barangay San Remegio, one of the farflung baran- gays in Kaputian District, is the fourth AlkanSSSya facility installed by SSS in Davao Region and the first farmers and fisherfolk­s group to have the program.

The AlkanSSSya Program is a cabinet-like “piggy bank” installed in the informal sector workers place where each participan­t is assigned with a coin box for them to put their savings, with the objectives to provide social security protection for informal sector workers; and to intensify coverage of IS workers under the category of Self-employed by providing a more convenient, individual­ized in group and very affordable means to remit SSS contributi­on in close coordinati­on with the Informal Sector Workers Associatio­n and in collaborat­ion with the local government.

Each participan­t will raise a minimum of P312.00 SSS monthly contributi­on or P10 to P15 daily savings and be remitted to SSS thru the associatio­n and SSS representa­tive assigned in the area. (Melrose/Samal CIO)
