CONSTRUCTION works for Aeon Towers are now in full swing following yesterday’s groundbreaking ceremonies for the tallest building ever to be constructed in Davao City.

The state-of-the-art Aeon Towers on J.P. Laurel Avenue is a 33-storey mixedused landmark that will change the city’s skyline and revolutionize the real estate industry in the Davao Region.

“From a mere dream in the past, we are now working on its realization,” Aeon Towers president Ian Y. Cruz said during the groundbreaking rites. “Today, the construction phase of this project begins.”

Ian’s father Francisco Tan Cruz, chair of the FTC Group of Companies whom he called the “Jack of all Trades” and the one who initiated the project, was also on hand during the momen- tous occasion.

Also present during the event were Philippine Business Bank president Rolando R. Avante, development and project manager Ian Campbell and Davao City Tourism (CTO) and Davao City Investment Promotions Center (DCIPC) chief Jason Magnaye, who represented Mayor Sara Duterte. After the groundbreaking, company executives led by Cruz also unveiled the scale model of the towering edifice at their showroom.

Mayor Duterte, in her message read by Magnaye, thanked homegrown firm FTC Group of Companies for venturing into this kind of project.

“The huge influx of big names in the commercial and real estate industry to Davao City in recent years has indeed fortified our position as the tourism and investment capital of Mindanao,” Duterte said.

“We have like wise emerged as among the top of mind des- tinations for those who want to experience the simplicity and quiteness of nature as well as finest of luxurious modern conveniences all found in one place,” the lady mayor added.

With a total capitalization of P3.1 billion, Aeon Towers is expected to be completed by 2016.

“On December of 2010 the first plan of Aeon Towers was laid down. From then on, nothing can stop the dedicated men and women behind this project from working towards its realization,” the younger Cruz said.
