- Text by Jesame R. Moises

In an effort to give underprivileged children educational head start, Teachers Civic Action Group (TCAG), composed of teachers from Sta. Sta Ana National High School, held a feeding activity and giving of school supplies to kids during their Culmination Program of the Flores de Mayo at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Chapel, Bangkal, Brgy. Talomo, Davao City on May 29, 2013.

More than 50 kids benefited the feeding activity and giving of school supplies wherein snacks consist of milk and bread were served while queuing for their turns to receive school supplies which include plastic envelope, pencil, ballpen, notebook, eraser, sharpener, crayons, art and bond papers.

“Salamat teachers sa mga gasa na nadawat namo karon (Thanks teachers for the blessings I received today)” said Nikkaella Aying, a Grade 6 pupil.

What you did is good and children with their parents are so happy of the snacks and the school supplies received).”

“Lipay sad mi nga nay sama ninyo manggihatagon. Thanks so much ang Lord na ang mobalos sa inyo (We’re thankful for the generous people you are. God will pay you back for your kindness),” said PSP (Pangulo sa Panudlo) Arlene Villaceran together with Gina Pelderos, Emma Villahermosa and Liza Sante as they expressed their heartfelt thanks to the group.

Jesame R. Moises, activiy organizer, said that it was really one of the aims of the group to help low-income families get their kids ready for this school year.

“It was touching and heartwarming to see kids getting happy for even little things that we give them,” Moises added.

Moises said that the activity is a group effort of the members and a great opportunity to give back to the community the blessings received especially to the needy. She was grateful for everyone who supported this activity - Ma. Sheila Tancinco Valencia, Ely Macalino, Jeepy Compio, Edith Natividad - wherein their help made a huge impact on the lives of these children.

For the members of the group, Elenita C. Buston, Dominica Castañares, Jucriz Gokotano, Joveylyn Jopia, Elizabeta Lofranco, Marilou Piquero, Lead Deligero and Robert Moises, all it took was children’s elation to make the entire effort worth it.

Aside from gift-giving and feeding, the group also aims to conduct tree planting activity, shoreline clean-up and other community outreach activities.
