A GRENADE was hurled and exploded at a house of an Egyptian national at No. 747, Kalamansi St., Juna Subd., Matina, Davao City, at around 10 p.m. Thursday.

The owner of the house was identified as Hamdy Ali Maohamad Ahmed.

Based on the initial investigation conducted by Talomo police, the caretaker of the house identified as Sarah Mupak Taya along with six other companions were already resting inside the house when they heard an explosion outside.

When they checked, they discovered that the glass windows of the liv- ing room were shattered as well as the windows of the mini bus which was parked at the garage.

Technical Support Platoon of the Davao City Police Office’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team conducted a postblast investigation and recovered fragments of an M26 fragmentation grenade.

Investigation also revealed that the grenade produced an eight-inch blast radius and depth.

Talomo police station commander Supt. Julius E. Silagan, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, said: “Ang possible

motive sa mga suspects sa pagpanglabay ug pagpabuto ug granada kay ang dispute sa ownership sa house (The possible motive of the suspects in throwing and detonating a grenade is a dispute in the ownership of the house).”

Silagan said there is a case filed in court which involved Ahmed and another claimant of the house, but he refused to name the other claimant as they have yet to confirm if the person is indeed involved in the incident.

Police are now conducting further investigation for the arrest of the suspects. The suspect stand to face Charges of illegal possession of explosives and damage to property.
