Go 100% smoke-free DAVAO

-

ADVOCATES of the Smoke-Free Davao with the Davao City Anti-Smoking Task Force from government agencies and private groups celebrated the 11th year of the implementation of the Anti-smoking ordinance at Rizal park yesterday.

Anti-Smoking Task Force co-chairperson Dr. Domilyn Villareiz, in her message, said the City Ordinance 0367-12 is just a modification and clarification on the implementation of the law making is clearer compared to the previous smoking ordinance.

Members of the Seventh-day Adventist youth assisted in distributing and posting of stickers on vehicles yesterday morning to inform the public about the new City Ordinance. Adventists have been supportive of the anti-smoking campaign since it was implemented in the city.

Members of the Anti- Smoking Task Force renewed their oath of support and will be assisted by the barangay officials in its implementation of the policy.

Five police stations which religiously implemented the ordinance and arrested smokers were also commended during the program at Rizal Park. These are Calinan Police Station, Buhangin Police Station, Bunawan Police Station, San Pedro and the Police Mobile Group.

Villareiz said 2,536 cases have been filed in court last year for violation of the smoking ordinance. Policemen are now ready to implement City Ordinance 0357-12 after receiving the citation ticket during the celebration yeaterday.

This is not to stop the smokers to puff cigarettes but just to protect the non-smokers, according to Villareiz.
