Samal holds regional Panaghiusa Festival
UNDP succeeds in helping typhoon victims earn a living
THE Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) conducted the Regional Tribal Panaghiusa Festival 2013 Celebration on Oct. 24 to 26 at the Peñaplata Central Elementary School, Sped Center of the Igacos Division.
Dubbed, “Panaghiusa Taliwala sa Nagkadaiyang Tribu sa Rehiyon”, the colorful festivity opened with a ritual given by the elders of Samal Tribe.
A handful of meaningful performances that depict the rich culture and tradition of the indigenous peoples were also showcased in the annual event.
The courtship and marriage dance of the Mandaya Tribe of Mati using IP instruments was one of the highlights of the celebration.
The Regional IP Fest, in an email from the Igacos City Information Office, aims to bring together contingents of IP children and OSYs from 10 school divisions in Region 11; showcase indigenous cultural traditions of dances, songs, musical instruments and stories to promote and cultivate deeper understanding of Indigenous People’s Cultural Heritage both tangible and intangible, for all sectors both local and international; and vie for academic excellence in terms of knowledge of the Ipra Law.
It also recognizes the invaluable contributions of traditional artists and cultural masters to Traditional Knowledge Preservation and Dissemination; and spearheads the continuing discussion and debate on IP Rights and other concerns on preservation, promotion, development of traditional culture and eco-tourism, and develop cultural awareness and link Philippines Indigenous communities to the international community of leaders, international media and advocates.
