BLACKBEARD’S Seafood Island, taking advantage of Davao City’s image as a melting pot of sorts for people of different beliefs, now offers not only new but also Halal-sensitive boodle sets for the Muslim communities in the city.

Blackbeard’s operations director Erich Joseph Alba said the restaurant has complied with the stringent standards set for a Halal restaurant.

In fact, a consultant from the Muslim community has checked the kitchen and trained the staff on how to prepare Halal food and delicacies.

The restaurant has separate utensils in preparing Halal dishes, as well as Halalcertified ingredients – meat products and condiments included.

Blackbeard’s has already established its unparalelled popularity when it comes to boodle sets, this being the first restaurant to bring this menu to diners in the city.

He said these attract mostly families and other diners who come in big groups, but not the Muslim communities. The restaurant, too, aspires to reach this market, and thus the new Halal boodle feasts and ala carte dishes.

Now, Muslim diners will get to enjoy the gastronomic feasts that the restaurant offers with no worries. Even the people of different beliefs can glean a little of their rich culture through the traditional foods.

Diners who wish to have a fill of the Halal-certified foods are left with four options of boodle sets, each comes with a combination of different dishes.

First is the Halal 1, comprised of garlic rice, crispy buntot ng tuna, guso, grilled talong, grillied halaan, salted egg, with tomato and white onion, white shrimp, ginataang kuhol with langka, kinilaw na malasugi, with grilled chicken, dilis, and palapa.

Another is Halal 2 with flavorful bagoong rice, grilled tuna panga, ginataang crab, ginataang pakbet, kinilaw na malasugi, green mango, and

white shrimp.

Diners can also choose Halal 3, composed of kalkag rice, tinola ulo ng maya sa buko, guso, tomato, onion, dilis, green mango, clams, baby squid, grilled bangus belly, chicken wings, white shrimp, and palapa.

There is also Halal 4, made of nasi goreng, curried crabs, sambal kangkong, fried egg, spicy soy chicken wings, beef, and chicken satay with peanut sauce.

Religion aside, all boodle sets of Blackbeard’s Seafood Island are sumptuous and practical, too.

“At first glance, our menu may be a bit a pricey, but when you see the portions, it’s generous and for good sharing,” Alba said.

The restaurant, which opened in May 2011, sports a beach interior in a spacious dining area that can accommodate a total of 130 customers. The other branch at SM City Annex features almost the same interior.
