Japanese firm eyes city for caregiving facility

A JAPANESE-owned company is eyeing to establish a world-class caregiving facility in Catigan, Toril this year, an official said.

Davao City Investments and Promotions Center officer-in-charge Ivan C. Cortez did not disclose the name of the company, but said the facility will cater mainly to first world countries with aging population.

He said the company has a large Japanese and Chinese clientele.

Cortez said the company may apply for incentives because they will fall under one of DCIPC’s preferred investment areas – health and wellness, educational and sports facilities.

He said the caregiving facility will be estab- lished near the World Class Retirement Complex Inc. (WCRCI)’s retirement facility, the Eagle’s View Mountain Resort & Residences.

Aside from being a caregiving facility, the institution will also serve as a worldclass training center for Dabawenyo who want to become caregivers.

“After the training, the caregivers will be recognized as world-class caregivers and they have the option to remain or go abroad,” Cortez said.

He also said the caregivers will be trained and work at the facility at the same time. Cortez said the caregivers who are in the training program will also be paid.

“They will accommo- date around 1,000 trainees for their training program,” Cortez said, adding that the trainees will man the three shifts of the facility.

He said the company is expecting to have their groundbreaking in October this year.

Once completed, the facility will have 300 suite rooms with a ratio of one room per patient.
