Araw ng Dabaw Sports Fest kicks off today

-

THE 77th Araw ng Dabaw Sports Festival is set today, 5 to 7 p.m. at Davao City Recreation Center (Almendras Gym).

In an interview with Sun. Star Davao, Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) spokesperson Charles Raymond Maxey said, Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte and city administrator Atty. Melchor Quitain will grace the event.

He said that 22 events and 26 competitions are slated for this year’s sports festival.

“There are 26 registered competitions because some local NSA’s (National Sports Association) will have 2 events per sport. This is our way to provide sports for all,” he said.

He said that an allocated budget of P 1.5 million is provided for the sports festival which will run for the whole month of March.

“Some competitions have already started since February. The bowling competition handled by Davao City Bowlers Association (Daciba) in Dover Mega Lanes begun Feb. 26 and concludes today,” he said.

The sports festival features arnis, athletics, baseball, basketball, billiard, body building, bowling, chess, cycling, dama, duathlon, judo, karatedo, kayaking, lawn tennis, motorcross, rugby football, shooting, table tennis, volleyball and the newly added tchoukball and wakeboarding.

Today, SDD-CMO will award the best muse among the NSA’s in which cash prize awaits the winner. MDC
