MSU student shot dead in campus
MARAWI CITY – A computer game may have been the reason for the shooting of a student of Mindanao State University-Marawi outside a commercial establishment in the campus at 7:25 p.m. Monday.
Samuel Go III, 21, a resident of Surigao and a student of BS Agricultural Engineering at MSU, together with two females was entering Hamida’s store at the commercial center to buy food when an unidentified young man suddenly passed by the store, fired his gun at Go’s head and quickly fled, Mac, the storeowner told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
The two girls took off Go’s shirt and plastered it on the gaping wound where the bullet passed through Go’s head, Mac added. Inspector John Van Luspo, assistant team leader of Charlie Maneuver of MSU-Marawi, said a 9mm shell was found in the crime scene.
Dr. Ramli Usman, the doctor on-duty that night at the University’s infirmary, said it took a long time before the victim was taken to their clinic.
The victim was taken by his three roommates and some members of Kabalikat Civicom to the infirmary on board a tricycle.
Usman said that the victim had profuse bleeding in the parietal area of his head. Some probable brain tissues were also starting to show in the wound.
There also seemed to have a second wound on the victim’s head suspected to be where the bullet passed through.
“Hindi natin siya mabitawan. Sobrang lakas [ng pagdurugo],” Usman told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
The victim’s nose was also bleeding so an oxygen mask could not be put on him.
Usman said they tried to hold the wound until a van from the university, accompanied by the Philippine National Police and Philippine Army, took the victim to Amai PakPak Medical Center in downtown Marawi at 7:45 p.m.
However, Khadaffy Marohombsar, the on-duty infirmary guard from the University’s Department of Security Services (DSS), said that they have been radioed that the victim died upon arrival at the hospital.
Before the incident happened, Go was seen to have come out from All Star Internet Café.
The police are looking at the trash-talking during a DotA tournament in the said café where the suspect might have been offended by Go.
DotA or “Defense of the Ancients” is a multiplayer computer game developed as a modification of Warcraft II, developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It is considered very popular among today’s younger generation.
“Mabait na bata yun (Go). Regular na customer namin yan (He is a good boy. And a regular customer of ours),” Mac said, disagreeing that the victim is a bad person to have been involved in a conflict. (RIZ P. SUNIO/ SUN.STAR CAGAYAN DE ORO)
