Raymond Lauchengco brings ‘The Promise’ to Davao
AFTER seven years, Raymond Launchengco has finally released another album under Viva Records which relives a number of love promises and brings back happy thoughts on love.
The former Bagets star promoted his new album called ‘The Promise’ at the Abreeza Ayala Mall Activity Center last May 31.
The album covers 10 love songs that span from several decades. These are ‘ The Promise’ which was originally sang by Melissa Manchester, George Benson’s ‘Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love’, Backstreet Boys’ ‘I’ll Never Break Your Heart’, Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’, Barry Manilow’s ‘Can’t Smile Without You’, The Beatles’ ‘Till There was You’, Hot Dog’s ‘Langit na Naman’, Wency Cornejo’s ‘ Magmula Ngayon’, All 4 One’s ‘I Swear’, and ‘If Ever I Would Leave You’, the theme song of the Broadway musical Camelot.
The show
During his show at Abreeza, you could really observe that the audience wasn’t only composed of those who grew up listening to his music. A number of teenagers were also there to witness him perform live. They may not be familiar of this 49-year-old artist, but I could say that they truly enjoyed the show if you would base it on their reaction every time he rendered a piece.
The one-hour show, which started at 6 p.m., was an explosion of wonderful music and a great way, indeed, to enjoy a Saturday evening with family and friends.
After the show, Launchengco had some short chit-chats with his fans through an album-signing activity.

When I was telling some of my friends that Raymond Lauchengco was visiting Davao for an album tour, they were somehow puzzled as to who this guy I was talking about. Well, I couldn’t blame them since it was already three decades ago when Bagets, the movie that made Aga Muhlach, Herbert Bautista, William Martinez, and Lauchengco gained more popularity, hit the local movie industry and enjoyed a box-office success.
But for someone like me who has been a fan of his songs like ‘ Farewell’, which was actually my graduation song in elementary (or high school?) and the ever-endearing love song ‘So It’s You’, seeing him on stage was definitely a great experience! Yes, the track ‘So It’s You’ was an original of Launchengco and was only covered by Christian Bautista.
