Reliving 90’s rock

will try to promote such an event twice a year here in Davao

- BY ELLE HARROW

IT was a night filled with rock music from the 90’s. As a fan, I was rocking the night away with the former jocks of NU 107 Davao and all other fans of the 90’s rock music. Dubbed as NUbenta, it was a reunion of rock n’ roll’s finest bands from Davao held at Reggae Bar and Grill on Pryce Road last May 30, 2014.

The special reunion concert was a celebration of the rock music played over the 90’s on the airwaves from the iconic FM rock station.

The rock-filled night was not connected in any way to the former FM rock station NU 107 Davao or NU 107 as it was made clear by the organizers.

Local rock bands came to the grand celebration to play for free as it was truly a reunion and a chance for old friends and fans to get together and relive the joy of experiencing awesome rock music altogether.

Davao’s finest bands were HH, Deus ex Makina, Little Green Men, Hydrophobia, Blink 666, Kismet, Sisteheads and the infamous Soundtank.

The organizers included Chauvi C. Sevilla, an ex-NU Jock, Cheche Moreno, NU Staff with NU Fans; Pitel Aclon, Maze Estolloso and Allan Raganit.

The Monfort Bat Cave and Conservation Foundation, Inc. (MBCCFI), is the beneficiary for the event. It is an eco-tourism foundation which focuses on outreach and awareness campaign on the inherent value of protecting all Philippine bat species and their habitats due to their importance on the environment.

The Bat sanctuary can be found in a 23-hectare protected area on a property in barangay Tambo, Babak District, and has drawn both tourists and the Guinness Book of World Records to the island.

NUbenta was a non-profit event held to give the public a chance to relive and enjoy Davao’s finest bands playing 90’s rock music. Personal donations were gathered to cover the expenses of the reunion, such as the prizes for trivia games, food and drinks for the bands and crew and other gift items were sponsored by Tanduay.

“We will be having this reunion-concert again in six months, though fans would like it to happen earlier than that, we need more time for this kind of event,” Chauvi C. Sevilla said.

She added that they will try to promote such an event twice a year here in Davao and reach more rock fans and bands. They promise to make it bigger and better for all the rock enthusiasts.
