No suicide note from cop: Lerios

- By Ivy C. Tejano

AN official of the San Pedro Police Station yesterday denied the policeman who was killed during a hostage standoff in Barangay Magugpo in Tagum City in Davao del Norte, left a suicide note and letters addressed to him and Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Sr. Supt. Vicente Danao Jr.

Danao, in an interview with dxMF Bombo Radyo, said he did not receive any letter from SPO4 Ricky Romandas Juanir. But he said he will check if here is one.

San Pedro police officein-charge Chief Insp. Hamlet Lerios dismissed the information of his men that the man behind the hostage-taking left a suicide note and two sealed letters. He added that Juanir only

asked for permission to go before he left the station on June 5.

“Napansin ko na iba ang kinikilos niya nung nagpaalam siya’ng umalis. Pero wala namang suicide note iniwan si Juanir. Sabi niya lang sa akin ‘Sir, ang bait mo talaga, wala akong masabi, kahit nun pa ang pagsasama natin, lalo na ngayon na officer-in-charge kana namin.’ Tapos umalis na siya,” Lerios said.

Lerios said he talked with the Juanir’s family and, according to the wife, her husband has a personal problem. Juanir was neutralized by members of the Tagum City Police Office, Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat), and Davao del Norte Provincial Police Office (DNPPO) at around 2:30 a.m. Friday, after several negotiations for his surrender since 8:20 p.m. on Thursday failed.

His remains are laid at their house at San Lorenzo in Puan in Davao City. (ICT with reports from Jeepy Compio of Sun. Star Superbalita)
