Anakbayan lauds Emmanuel Mijares for “speaking truth to power”

WE laud Youth Act Now member Emmanuel Mijares for “speaking truth to power”, as he shouted “Patalsikin ang Pork Barrel King! Walang pagbabago sa Pilipinas!” while Aquino was delivering his speech, in Naga City on Independence Day.

Quick to overreact are the PSG and the PNP as they went overkill by arresting him as well as filing charges against him, supposedly because he was ‘disturbing the peace’ during Aquino’s speech.

We condemn his arrest for he was arrested because he exercised his democratic rights. It is hypocritical that on the day that the country became ‘independent’, a student was arrested, for his concern to our country.

By saying that “walang pagbabago sa Pilipinas”, Mijares reflects what the people have long observed; that the more things change, the more things stay the same.

We call for the immediate release of Mijares, and the drop of charges against him.

There is a need for more heroic people like Mijares in the Aquino ouster movement. Without militancy the movement is a dull sword. People like Mijares are truly an asset to the Filipino people.
