Livelihood for typhoon victims in DavOr pushed

-

CITY OF MATI – The rehabilitation of Pablostricken areas remains a big concern for the provincial government of Davao Oriental as it continues to address the needs of the victims, with the generosity of various partners, from the national line agencies, private companies, and international institution.

But as the help continues, Gov. Corazon Malanyaon also thinks of livelihood for the victims, for them to really stand on their own, and start another chapter of a new life.

In the recent meeting of the Davao Oriental Task Force Pablo, Malanyaon reiterated her gratitude for all the help extended by the national line agencies from the search and rescue operations, relief operations, and the provision of their needs, particularly shelter.

And from temporary and core shelters, now it has come to permanent shelter units through the Emergency Shelter Assitance (ESA) and Mofified Shelter Assistance Program of the Dept. of Social Welfare and Dev’t (DSWD).

“With the interventions given to them, they were able to start again, but what will they do next? They have to have a source of living to survive, and I am thinking of that now. While we are waiting for the assistance promised to us and for the asstiance to still come our way, but the thing is we can do things on our own, we can start the undertakings ourselves and we do not have to wait, because afterall, they should not be relying and depending on assistance all their life,” she said.

One way the provincial government is dwelling into is debris management, utilize the debris, and maximize the benefits they can give. Debris particulary means fallen trees.

“We still have a lot to pick and dispose properly. Including those in the upland areas. We really have to act on this now because the scattered debris derailed the planting of the farmers, and time means so much to them,” she explained.

Malanyaon directed Davao Or Task Force Pablo to craft an action plan towards the implementation of debris management as one concrete assistance for the typhoon victims.

As an initial step, the different committees were already created in the said meeting, held at the Grand Conference Room, Capitol, City of Mati.

“With our conserted efforts, harmonizing our resources, and guided with a very clear direction, there is no way but attaining the purpose of all our endeavors, especially for the typhoon victims.
