Issues on night market law in emergency exec session
CITY administrator Atty. Melchor Quitain yesterday called for an emergency executive session with the city councilors and discussed some “issues” on the existing night market ordinance.
Minutes before the regular session yesterday, the city councilors gathered at the Green Room of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP).
The media was prohibited from entering the room.
All members of the 17th City Council were present except for Councilor Myrna Dalodo Ortiz who was on leave.
The executive session lasted for about 15 minutes only.
In an interview after the meeting, Quitain said
they discussed about the approved night market ordinance which is “subject for review” according to the City Legal Office.
“I just wanted to tell them that there are some things that are subject for review,” he said, but refused to elaborate.
Councilor Jimmy Dureza, in a separate interview, said the City Legal Office made some observations on the ordinance, specifically on “lease of stalls”.
“We have to make certain amendments,” Dureza told reporters.
City Demolition Unit head Yusuf Jimlani, in an earlier report, said each vendor for the night and weekend street market is required to pay P4 per night for every 1.5-to-2-meter stall to the City Treasurer’s Office. ANC
