Rama wants Capitol’s help on Bantal traffic

CEBU – Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is asking the Provincial Government to help address the traffic problem on the Banilad-Talamban (Bantal) corridor.

“The Capitol has properties along the area and I wish the governor will also be helping,” he told reporters.

During a visit to the area yesterday, the mayor said there was less traffic. “Actually, it’s just all about discipline and consideration,” he added.

The City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) also announced that starting today, the City will provide another U-turn slot at the Sto. Niño Village.

Given permission

City Hall already asked the permission of the ho- meowners’ association and members agreed to open their gate for the vehicles.

Although the front portion of Bright Academy was offered as a U-turn slot, Citom Chief Atty. Rafael Yap said the area needs significant work to provide enough spaces for vehicles.

“The area where Bright Academy stands is too close to the flyover that is why we are no longer considering it as a U-turn slot,” Yap told Sun.Star Cebu.

Based on their traffic assessment for the past days, traffic is heavy in areas such as the front of Paradise Village up to Gaisano Country Mall and all the way to the University of San Carlos Talamban campus, while traffic from Paradise Village all the way to the flyover in front of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority is lighter.

More U-turn slots

Citom added U-turn slots in front of Paradise Village, Gaisano Country Mall, under the flyover in Banilad, the area in front of Barcode and in front of the Family Park in Talamban.

Rama, along with Citom and Bantal Task Force personnel, will conduct another walk-through inspection in the area to assess the implementation of the no-left-turn policy.

Since last week, City has implemented the no-left-turn-policy during rush hours, or from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
