Tom’s Destiny

-

BECOMING one of Philippine television’s most endearing leading men was nothing Bartolome Alberto Mott A. K. A. Tom Rodriguez planned. Growing up in Catbalogan, Samar, he never expected to make it big in showbiz. Fate, however, certainly finds its way to fulfill what eventually is bound to happen.

Tom Rodriguez is now a household name thanks to GMA’s phenomenal drama series My Husband’s Lover (MHL) where he made hearts bleed for his affecting portrayal of Vincent Soriano, a married man enamored with his first love from high school.

Currently returning for My Destiny, an addition to the Network’s primetime series, Tom pairs up a second time on TV with Carla Abellana, his leading lady in MHL.

Believing that every decision he’s made led him to where he is today, the Fil-Am actor talks about his newest project, his take on showbiz relationships, being positive, and the thing called destiny.

Q: Can you describe your character in My Destiny?

A: I play Matthew Lucas Andrada. He’s a medical student who becomes a general surgeon. He takes after his father. He’s a hopeless romantic.

Q: What is new about your team-up with Carla Abellana this time?

A: It’s notot as heavy as My Husband’s Lover, it’s not as light as So It’s You. I think it’s a happy medium. It’ss somewhere in between kasi parang medyo mayy Koreanovela feel ‘yung show. Again it’s a happy medium, it’s in the middle, and I’m enjoying it.

Q: How do you feel when people seem to want youou and Carla to be together as a couple?

A: I admit it’s very, very flattering pero of course you have to take it with a grain of sub-subjectivity kasisi you wouldn’t want to do anything dahil lang other people wish you to do so. If there’s somethingmething that would happen, it’s be-because you wanted to.

Q: Do you and Carla go out on friendly dates?

A: ‘ Yung sa MHL tour, but even that we were still work-working. And kahit doon we had different itineraries naman.

Q: Whatt was your initial reaction whenhen you learned about her recent break-up?

A: I wass more sensitive to her knowing that she must be going through something hard. The best thing I can do for her is just to make thee work pleasant and enjoyable.ble.
