Councilor to address IP’s health issues
DAVAO City Councilor Berino L. Mambo-o Sr. said that he wants to address the health issues of the Indigenous People (IP) particularly the mothers and their newly-born children who are in far-flung areas.
Mambo-o, who is the representative of the IP community in the City Council, said that the delivery of basic health services in the remote places always encounter difficulties.
“The health of our IP mothers and our newly- born children who are in the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas are mostly affected,” he said in a privilege speech during Tuesday’s regular session.
Mambo-o urged the local coordination and the implementation and sustainability of the Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) No. 2013-011 that addresses the health issues of mothers and newly-born children who are in the geographically isolated and
disadvantaged areas.
The JMC is between the Department of Health, National Commission on Indigenous People and the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Mambo-o also urged government and non-government organizations and the affected communities to participate.
He also said that he will soon sponsor an appropriate resolution regarding the matter.
Mambo-o’s privilege speech was approved by the Council under the first reading and it is to be referred to the Committee on Proper Education. KGL
