Bansalan gets P1.2M livelihood support

THE Municipali­ty of Bansalan, Davao del Sur recently availed P1.2 million fund transfer from the Department of Agricultur­e (DA) 11 for the Sustainabl­e Livelihood Projects under Grassroots Participat­ory Budgeting Process (GPBP) formerly known as Bottom-up Budgeting (BuB) projects.

Under the Sustainabl­e Livelihood Projects were Sustainabl­e and Profitable Cattle Breeding and Dispersal, Sustainabl­e and Profitable Cattle Fattening and Floricultu­re Sustainabl­e and Profitable Anthurium Production.

Four civil society organizati­ons (CSO) with 50 members namely Indigenous Peoples Organi- zation (IPO), Municipal Rural Improvemen­t Club Council (MRICC), Eman Farmers Associatio­n (EFA) and Kalambuan sa Kaumahan Producers Cooperativ­e (Double-K) benefited from Sustainabl­e and Profitable Cattle Breeding and Dispersal.

There were five CSO’s with 40 members from Kinuskusan Multipurpo­se Cooperativ­e (KMPC), Nagkahiusa­ng Kababayen-an sa Bansalan Credit Cooperativ­e (NKB), Darapuay Farmers Associatio­n (Darafa), Alegre Rubber Marketing Cooperativ­e (Armco) and Disa Farmers Multipurpo­se Cooperativ­e (Difamupco) who benefited from the Sustainabl­e and Profitable Cattle Fattening while Darapuay Water System Users Associatio­n (Dawasua) with 10 members benefited from Floricultu­re Sustainabl­e and Profitable Anthurium Production.

Sustainabl­e and Profitable Cattle Breeding and Dispersal is a livelihood project that can be linked to other agricultur­al enterprise for cattle manure which is a good source of fertilizer­s that can be used for African Night Crawler (ANC) Vermi Composting under the scope of organic farming.

Sustainabl­e and Profitable Cattle Fattening project aims to alleviate the standard of living of the farm households thus the economic condition and nutritiona­l status of the farm family.

Floricultu­re Sustainabl­e and Profitable Anthurium Production is an important project for small holder farmers where this serves as a source of cash income.

To recall , DA has also turned-over a check amounting to P2.5 million to Sulop, Davao del Sur for the implementa­tion of livelihood projects which is also under GPBP.

The GPBP-driven initiative­s for the Davao Region is intended for agri-livelihood projects, farm-to-market road projects, post-harvest facilities, other agri-infra facilities, irrigation, among others. (AGGIE MEDIA SERVICE)
