Rice outlets enough in Davao, Samal Is.

THE National Food Authority (NFA)-Davao City said it has enough number of outlets that supply consumers with sufficient stock of rice.

NFA-Davao, which also covers Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), has 56 accredited outlets both in the city and Igacos, 66 outlets in different barangays, and 11 rice outlets in chapels.

“Sa among bana-bana sakto ra siya (Based on our estimates these outlets are just enough),” Virgilio Alerta, manager NFA-Davao City, told reporters yesterday.

He said they will establish additional outlets should the need arise, considering that established outlets can only cater to their immediate environs.

However, he said they have to study and assess the situation in the barangay before they put up an outlet. NFA-Davao has a total of 500,000 bags of rice supply for the year.

On Tuesday, Councilor Bernard Al-ag, during the privilege hour of the regular session of the City Council, proposed a resolution urging the NFA to allow the opening of rice outlets in every barangay in the city.

Al-ag said this will allow NFA rice to become more accessible to the public. He said the current price of commercial rice is not affordable to most people and the only option for them is to look for a cheaper option which is the NFA rice.

“Most of our people are relying on the availability of the NFA rice considering that it is affordable and best fits the family’s budget,” Al-ag said.
