SW board topnotchers get cash incentives

-

The University of Mindanao has special incentives for its alumni that topped national board exams.

To receive the most cash incentive is Honey Jay Danao Bacus for placing No. 1 in the Social Workers Board Exam. Awarding ceremony will be held today, July 10.

The ceremony will be held at the Matina campus, said Desiree Fria Gonzales, program head for the social work division of the College of Arts and Sciences Education at the University of Mindanao.

Bacus and co-alumni Roshelo Caluyo, who placed eighth in the same examinations, will be awarded by UM President Guillermo P. Torres Jr the amounts of P1 million and P50,000, respectively.

Bacus is the first student to be awarded the P1-mil- lion prize in the history of the University having copped her performance with the help of the university.

She arranged with the school to be able to use the library as well as materials from the Social Work club to pursue her reviews and additional reading instead of a review school.

Bacus finished her studies as a scholar of the city government’s Scholarship on Tertiary Education Program.

“She was not a consistent dean’s lister. She just really immersed herself in her studies and in the reviews,” added Gonzales.

Bacus has said she intends to work with the City Social Services and Development Office to be able to “pay back” who put her through school.

The University of Min- danao garnered 89.66% (first time takers) passing rate versus the national passing rate of 54.79%.
