Youth commission partners with Smart
THE National Youth Commission (NYC) has partnered with Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) for the use of the Smart Infoboard service.
The Infoboard service is Smart’s web-based communications tool that can be used for sending and receiving information within a closed community. It allows the NYC to use any Internet-enabled computer or mobile device to broadcast via short messaging service (SMS) important announcements such as circulars and memoranda to member-youth organizations and volunteers nationwide.
Youth organizations and volunteers that are registered to the Infoboard service will receive advisories from the NYC via SMS on their cellphones wherever they are and at any time of the day, free of charge. They may also use the service to text feedback, comments, and suggestions to the NYC for P1 per message.
Smart is part of the Abot-Alam consortium led by the Department of Education and the NYC that aims to create opportunities for education, employment, and entrepreneurship for the millions of out- of-school youth (OSY) in the country. The program aims to map out all the country’s OSYs aged 15-30 and match them with appropriate government or civil society programs so that they can finish high school, acquire the needed skills to be productive, and be given opportunities to be employed or go into a small business. The Smart Infoboard service will support NYC’s thrust of signing up OSYs for Abot-Alam.
