Startup Weekend Davao set
It is that time again when enthusiasts across Davao City converge to show off their technical chops on software development, website development, and anything IT in a pitching competition dubbed “Startup Weekend Davao.”
Speaking in Monday’s Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao, Angel Abella, co-organizer of 3rd Startup Weekend Davao, encouraged IT professionals, or even those who are starting their own company to participate in the event slated on August 1 to 3, at the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu).
“We want to put Davao in the forefront as a startup haven,” she said, adding that it will open up more opportunities for the startups.
More than 100 IT geeks are expected to join in the event, mostly are students and those who have just graduated. Non-technical participants are also welcome to join in the event.
“Since its initial run here in Davao City, our team’s vision had always been to build a strong synergetic startup community. After participating and facilitating a number of tech community events here and in nearby areas, we are thrilled that the Startup Weekend Davao has gradually achieved this vision,” Dulce Lada, co-organizer of Startup Weekend and CEO of Crea8tech Solutions, said in a press release.
Among the judges include Philippine Software Industry Accociation (PSIA) president and founder Joey Gurango; engageSPARK founder and CEO Ravi Agarwal; Synacy CEO Rhett Jones; Careshering co-founders Jean-Patrick Bisson and Harm Rietjens, and National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) president Lizabel Holganza.
Topnotch coaches who industry masters will be mentoring the participants.
“Startup Weekend is one of the best op- portunities to try out what it’s like to be an entrepreneur. This year, Startup Weekend Davao is creating an intersection between the social impact and technology communities, and encourages more women to participate. With more support from various entities, it will be incredible to see what the tech and business community can do together to help those with a focused social mission,” Abella added in a press release.
