Security tightened at Davao Gulf
THE Task Force Davao (TFD) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have tightened security measures at Davao Gulf amid terror threats in Mindanao.
Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, who is acting mayor, earlier said that a very reliable raw information from the intelligence community indicated possible entry of terrorists through the city’s coastal areas.
TFD commander Col. Macairog S. Alberto, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said they have intensified security measures through regular boat patrol and inspections of boats in their areas of responsibility. The PCG members are also doing the same effort, he added.
“Kasama sa trabaho namin ang paglilibot sa coastal areas in coordination with the coast guards. Aside sa terror threat, isa rin sa mga binabantayan
namin itong human trafficking and drug trafficking na posible ring dumaan sa coastal areas,” Alberto said.
The authorities toured Wednesday the Global Impact Phils Foundation, a non-profit organization, whose mission is to equip people to grow, develop and thrive in all aspects of life through mentoring, education and being living examples of disciplined followers of Christ.
“Our main objective is to do prevention and awareness in human trafficking, be the voice to aid people. We also do humanitarian work and trainings. We’re here because we wanted to give our members some exposure to this security of Davao City,” Global Impact founding director Amy Muranko-Gahan, said.
Alberto, with the Global Impact members and the media onboard the TF Davao patrol boat, showed the coastal areas being monitored by the authorities. He said the task force, coast guard, navy and maritime police here are also regularly monitoring the coastal areas to ensure the safety of the public.
