ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL - City Mayor Aniano P. Antalan, representing the city government here, inked a memorandum of agreement with the Uyking family, represented by Jeanne L. Uyking, for the donated land area of 9,953sqm covered with a Resolution No. 565 s 2014 and Res. 538 s 2014 on July 8, 2014 at the City Mayor’s Office, Peñaplata, Samal District.

The donated land will be utilized for the construction of the welcome rotunda and its component road system at the Y-junction of Barangay Kinawitnon, Babak District and a separate lot for the relocation area of the 13 families and a mosque for the informal settlers residing along the shoreline of the Uyking property.

Antalan thanked the Uyking family in the realization of its commitment to the island’s development through a joint venture agreement and close partnership.

“Nindot kaayo ang inyong lugar, sigurado ko nga daghan gyud ang mo-interest sa pag-invest niini tungod kay accessible kaayo, nindot ang baybayon kay walay mga struktura sama sa jetty ug duol gyud sa Davao (You have a very good property, I’m sure that many would be very interested to invest in your property given its open long beachline absence of permanent structure and very ac- cessible to Davao City),” Antalan said.

The Uyking family were also optimistic in improving the area once the informal settlers are relocated to a donated site and the housing structures along the shoreline are demolished. As stipulated in the agreement, the barangay and the city government will allocate and source funds for the development of the basic facilities such as water and power lines and road maintenance in the relocation area.
